"A Southern Connecticut State University philosophy professor resigned Thursday as he faces charges of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a student, the university announced.
Steven Gold...The university announced Wednesday that an arrest warrant had been issued for a professor on charges of first-degree sexual assault and second-degree kidnapping. University Police Chief John Prokop said Gold would be arrested when his attorneys make him available to campus police.
In announcing Gold’s resignation, the university said his arrest was pending his “medical availability.”
Prokop would provide few details of the charges, which he said stemmed from a March 17 incident involving a female student in her on-campus apartment.
Campus police began their investigation that day, after the student filed a complaint of inappropriate and unethical behavior, Prokop said. The student, who was abducted, was not injured in the incident, he said.
Gold had taught at Southern since September 1989, did not have tenure "
